Name & Purpose

M.M.H. (Mighty Marching Hornets Band Boosters) was organized in July 2007 in Montgomery, Alabama, as a band interest group for the Alabama State University Marching Band and its auxiliaries.

Its principal purpose is to support the marching band program by providing funds for scholarships for band students attending the university, along with other band program expenses approved by the Executive Committee.

Objectives
  • Promote excellence in the marching band program
  • Provide financial assistance to the marching band
  • Strengthen fan support at band contests and road games
  • Promote the goodwill of Alabama State University’s Marching Band Program
Membership & Voting

Membership is open to ASU alumni, faculty, staff, and students, parents of band students, friends of the university, corporations, businesses, and organizations. The Boosters maintain three membership levels with the following annual dues, and the membership year runs August 1 through July 31.

  • Full Voting Membership$100
  • Associate Membership$75
  • Student Membership$50
  • Full Voting Members vote on the election of officers, amendments to the by-laws, and urgent financial issues.
  • Associate and Student members take part in meetings and day-to-day activities but do not vote.
  • The Treasurer verifies paid memberships and the Secretary keeps the official list of eligible voters.
Officers

Officers are elected by majority vote from the general membership: President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, and Chaplain. Officers must be reachable by phone or email.

Candidates are nominated by members and must be in good standing. The President may appoint additional officers and committee chairs.

Committees

Standing committees keep the work of the Boosters organized:

  • Executive — general leadership and meeting agendas
  • Membership — records, drives, and officer eligibility
  • Finance — budget, cash flow, and fundraising
  • Audit — review of receipts, deposits, and expenditures
  • Communications — roster, calendar, and updates
  • Activities — events, service projects, and homecoming
  • Public Relations — logo, communications, and website
  • Education — recruitment and scholarships
  • At-Large — ad-hoc events such as the HOF Gala and game events
Meetings
  • Two general in-person meetings are held each calendar year in Montgomery, Alabama.
  • Members receive written notice by mail or email of the place, date, time, and business.
  • A quorum is a majority of the verified Full Voting Members present.
  • Meetings follow Robert’s Rules of Order, with minutes, the Treasurer’s report, old business, and new business on every agenda.
Finances & Accountability
  • Funds are held in a special account at an FDIC-approved bank.
  • Contributions are payable to the M.M.H. Band Boosters and can be paid digitally, given to the Secretary or Treasurer, or mailed to the Boosters P.O. Box.
  • Funds are disbursed only after a formal request is reviewed by the Executive Committee, and checks require two authorized signatures.
  • The Treasurer reports at every meeting, and financial records are available for review.
  • No officer or committee member is paid for their service. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses may be reimbursed.
  • No earnings are distributed to members or officers, and if the organization dissolves, remaining assets go only to the purpose it was founded for.
  • The fiscal year runs August 1 through July 31.
Removal & Amendments

An officer may be removed for violating the by-laws, failing to perform assigned duties, or misusing funds. Removal requires Executive Committee approval and a two-thirds vote of the general membership.

The by-laws may be amended by a two-thirds vote at a regular meeting, after an initial meeting of discussion.
